How to Begin
Not sure where to start? Here are some suggestions on the best way to begin learning and using the Bates method. 1. Free Books Two of the best books, in my opinion, are Perfect Sight Without Glasses by Bates (1920) and Use Your Own Eyes by William B. MacCracken (1937), available for free here. There are also more modern books available, but their copyrights are still active and they can't be reproduced here - see #4 below. 2. Finding a TeacherIf you find the task of improving your vision on your own too daunting, get one or more lessons from an experienced Bates teacher. Some also do phone consultations, but at least one in-person lesson is highly recommended. See the Find a Teacher page. 3. Free Help at the iblindness.org Community ForumVisit the forum to post questions and get help from other forum members, and read through past discussions. 4. Better Eyesight Magazine and various booksBetter Eyesight was a periodical Dr. Bates published monthly from 1919 to 1930 that contains tons of articles by Bates, his assistant Emily, patients, and other doctors. It's a fantastic resource for anyone learning the Bates method. The entire collection is for sale in paperback and digital format at the Bates Method Store, along with several other books picked for their exceptional quality. |
